👋 Xin chào! Hola! Hello!

From Vietnam to Spain,

with Love

Hi! I’m so glad that you are here! Join me on this chaotic, beautiful journey of raising a multilingual baby while navigating life as an expat mom in Spain, especially Basque country.

A little bit about me...

I became a mother while living in Spain, away from my family, old friends, and the rhythms that once felt natural.

Suddenly, everything required more effort.

I remember sitting in a waiting room, holding my child, rehearsing what I needed to say in a language that still didn’t feel like mine and I hoped I understood enough.

Things I would’ve asked my mother or a close friend about now lived only in my head, unanswered.

There was no one to text when I wasn’t sure if something was normal. No familiar voice to say, “You’re doing fine.”

I learned to Google things late at night, scrolling while the house was finally quiet, wondering which advice applied to me — and which didn’t.

From the outside, life looked good.

Inside, I carried more doubt than I ever expected.

And then I realized I was far more unprepared than I ever imagined.

Being a mom here is both magical and overwhelming.

There are days filled with joy, laughter, and tiny moments that make my heart feel full.

And there are days that feel lonely, confusing, and quietly overwhelming — days when I miss being held by familiarity as much as I hold my children.

What surprised me most  was how alone I sometimes felt in the middle of it all.

I searched for guidance.

What I found was either overly cheerful expat content that skipped the hard parts, or practical information with no space for emotion.

What I needed — and couldn’t find — was something gentler. Something honest. Something that said: “Yes, this is hard. And no, you’re not failing.”

That’s where Hello Viet Mama began.

This blog is my way of sharing the real experience of motherhood abroad — the beautiful, the messy, and everything in between.

Here, I write about:

  • raising children across languages without turning it into pressure
  • navigating life in Spain (especially the Basque Country) as a foreign parent
  • nurturing a marriage while everything around you is changing
  • motherhood, mental health, and the identity shifts no one warns you about

I don’t write from a place of expertise.

I write from lived experience — learning as I go, sometimes unsure, always trying.

Everything here is written with care, empathy, and a deep respect for how complex this season of life can be.

Motherhood in a foreign country can feel isolating. But it can also be quietly transformative, teaching us resilience, compassion, and a kind of strength we didn’t know we had.

If you’re here, it probably means you’re figuring things out too.

And that’s exactly why this blog exists.

You’re welcome here — in the uncertainty, in the growth, and in all the in-between moments.
Let’s navigate this journey together, celebrating the small wins, learning from the challenges, and finding comfort in knowing that every mom, everywhere, is simply doing her best.
